Comparisons: your questions

  • A comparison puts two or three solutions side by side on the criteria that really decide things: tax, ceilings, taxation at maturity, whether they can be combined, target profile. The aim is to let you make up your mind without having to read three legal codes. Each comparison links to the matching simulator so you can put figures on your own case.

  • No. The comparisons are based on public criteria (FSMA, NISSE, FPS Finance, insurers' general terms and conditions). No insurer pays to appear or to be highlighted.

  • If you work as a sole proprietor, it is the PLCI/VAPZ: deduction from personal income tax at your marginal rate and savings on social security contributions, with a ceiling of €4,086.34 (standard) or €4,701.54 (social). If you have a company, you can combine a personal PLCI/VAPZ with an IPC through the company (deductible from corporate income tax within the limits of the 80% rule). The PLCI/VAPZ vs IPC comparison gives a personalised recommendation.

  • The tipping point depends on several factors (income, social security contributions, IPC, dividends, business expenses, family situation). As a rough guide, many self-employed people reach break-even at between €70,000 and €90,000 of annual profit, but the advantage only becomes truly significant from around €100,000. The dedicated comparison will be published soon; in the meantime, the tax simulator gives an initial estimate.

  • A comparison sets out the rules of each solution side by side: tax, ceilings, taxation at maturity, who it is for. A simulation applies those rules to your own figures (income, status, structure). The first helps you understand the options, the second helps you estimate what they mean for you. Both are for guidance only and refer to the official sources (FSMA, NISSE, FPS Finance, Belgian Official Gazette).

  • Yes: the free simulation (no sign-up) puts figures on your case in a few minutes, based on the published comparisons. For an overall review of your assets (PLCI/VAPZ + IPC + property + third pillar), leave your details on the contact page: an adviser or broker registered with the FSMA may get back to you, free of charge and with no obligation.
