Cookie policy
Updated on 11 October 2026
This page sets out the cookies and trackers used on finances-independants.be, what they are for and how long they are kept. It supplements our privacy policy.
1. Legal framework
Our use of cookies complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU 2016/679, GDPR) and the Belgian Act of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications (which transposes the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC). The audience measurement cookies described below are active as soon as you arrive on the site.
2. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser when you visit a website. It is used to remember your preferences or to measure audience. Some equivalent trackers (pixels, local storage) are subject to the same rules as cookies.
3. Cookies and trackers used
3.1. Technical cookies
Cookies strictly necessary for the site to work (language preference, session, CSRF security). No consent required (Art. 129 §1 1° of the Act of 13 June 2005). Duration: session or 12 months maximum.
3.2. Pirsch, GDPR-native analytics (cookieless)
Pirsch (pirsch.io, hosted in Germany) measures the site's audience without cookies or persistent fingerprinting. Visitors cannot be identified. No data is shared with third parties for advertising purposes. No consent required (legitimate interest, Art. 6.1.f GDPR).
3.3. Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
GA4 is configured in anonymised mode (truncated IP, Google signals disabled). Cookies set: _ga, _ga_* (13 months maximum), _gid (24h). Purpose: audience measurement. Active as soon as you arrive on the site. Transfers outside the EU are governed by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
3.4. PostHog EU
PostHog (EU instance, hosted in Frankfurt) analyses browsing paths and use of the simulators to improve the experience: pages viewed, clicks, most-viewed areas, session replays. In these replays, contact detail fields (name, email, phone, message) appear as entered. Cookie and local storage ph_* (12 months). Active as soon as you arrive on the site.
If you submit a form (contact, simulator, guide, newsletter), your email address and the details you entered are linked to your browsing history on this site, including your earlier visits from the same browser. This helps us understand the context of your request so we can respond to it better.
4. Retention periods
- Technical cookies: session or 12 months maximum.
- GA4: 13 months (cookies) / 14 months (server data).
- PostHog: 12 months (cookies) / 12 months (events).
- Pirsch: no cookies; aggregated audience data kept for 24 months.
5. Blocking cookies and erasing your data
- Browser settings: most browsers let you block or delete cookies (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge: see your browser's help pages).
- GA4 opt-out: install the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (new tab).
- Full erasure of your data: see our unsubscribe / right to be forgotten page.
6. Your GDPR rights
You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. To exercise them, write to contact@finances-independants.be. You can also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority: autoriteprotectiondonnees.be (new tab).
7. Updates
